Music & Arts is one of the many ministry teams that make up Cornerstone Church. The concept of Worship dominates the Bible. From the beginning of the book to the end it is full of the revelation of a God who is majestic, awesome, and worthy of all our honour, desire, and praise. The tragedy of Sin in our world is foundationally the result of people worshiping, or giving the ultimate priority in their life to something other than God. So it is our privilege to explore the creative gifts of the arts as a means of making the name of God glorious in our church, community, and world. As a committed follower of Christ you are a part of this ministry every time you open your mouth to offer praise to God. As a part of this team we have the wonderful privilege of calling others to know the enduring love of God and celebrate in His presence. Keep reading to find out more about worship, the Music & Arts ministry team, and how you can get involved in serving.

Biblical Worship is the pattern of revelation and response.
Revelation is the way in which God has made Himself known to us.
This is done generally through His work in creation, and specifically through His word. As God reveals Himself, we are then able to respond to Him through obedience in our lives, with transformed attitudes in our hearts.
Worship always begins with revelation and is incomplete without our response.
Cornerstone Music & Arts is a team of worshipers who connect with the arts to build up and equip the body.
Begins with worshipers: Individuals who make the development of Godly Character their priority. They are committed disciples, immersed in the word, and constant in prayer.
Connects with the Arts: Using the many creative avenues, whether music, drama, visual arts, or any other creative medium, to communicate the truths of God as revealed through scripture.
Builds up and equips the body: Our creative gifts are the offerings we bring to the body so that they have the opportunity to respond to God, and as a result their lives are changed. This requires us to have a mature aesthetic, and a servant’s heart. Leadership is also a strong component in that we are hoping to take the church somewhere. Music and Arts is not inspirational, nor is it entertainment. It is to be a vehicle to help people reorient their lives on the commission of the cross, in the hope of the resurrection, and in the power of the Holy Spirit. Out of this, we hope to see our world change as people are called to repentance at the name of Jesus and that justice is upheld by a church of obedient worshipers that sees the spread of the gospel as its life’s work.
The Values of Cornerstone Music & Arts,
This is what we are working to build into our team of musicians and artists:
Art as a reflection of the image of God
The image of God has imprinted on us a desire to be creative and we want to use the vast canvas of His creation to worship him. Our desire is to use the arts as an extension of God’s revelation and as a means to communicate His revealed truths to a world in need. We want to explore creative expression with joy and abandon and continually explore the newness and growth of our spiritual lives through singing new songs and crafting new art as we grow in our relationship with Christ.
Commitment to Quality
As an obedient response given to God, we desire to bring our first and best artistic work to him. God is worthy of the highest effort, and we demonstrate our true heart for him by the quality of our service. So we sacrifice, and take the time and effort to hone our craft, to rehearse, and to create. We spend time studying great art, and learn to develop our own God given voice of expression, as we wrestle with the concepts of scripture at work in our lives. This team will challenge each other and hold each other accountable for achieving the highest of standards.
Serving
As artists, our desire is to serve the church of God. We want to help people engage in following God through worship, and facilitate the artistic needs of other ministries in our church. Part of this will be in helping people discern artistic gifts as we encourage people to serve with us. We also want to start exploring how we can take our artistic ministry gifts outside of the church and into the community, knowing that the arts can be a powerful advocate in our world.
Community of Artists
We believe the local church needs to be a safe home for artists. The church should champion the role of the arts in community worship and personal life as well as have an active role in the mentoring and discipleship of artists. We want to encourage, inspire, and push each other on to artistic excellence while being a safe place to explore new ideas. As a music and arts team, we want to facilitate connections between artists and encourage collaboration and the building of a strong spiritual community of worshipers. The arts can also be used as a bridge as we use our skills as a connecting point to impact the wider community of Saskatoon and our world.
Generations of Worshipers
Our desire is to have a mature approach to the arts. One of our roles to facilitate this is the education and teaching of various artistic expressions and how they can speak deeply through us during our worship of God. We are committed to having a wide variety of artistic mediums (music, drama, technical, visual, graphic, and decorative) and want to cultivate an appreciation in ourselves and in our church for all people and their worship expressions. Part of this is to explore and draw from the richness of ancient and historic faith expressions as well as being open to exploring what is contemporary.
